Supported Living Services
Helping people live independently in their own home, with flexible support tailored to their needs.

Independence with the right support
Supported living enables people to live in their own home while receiving as much, or as little, support as they need. We help with everything from managing a tenancy and household tasks to building the skills and confidence for greater independence.
All of our services are focused on supporting people to be as independent as possible in their own home and in their local community. We believe every person, whatever challenges they face, can achieve a great deal with the right support — whether that is a 4:1 staff ratio or a few hours a week of help with a tenancy.
Developing independence skills
We support and encourage people with everyday tasks: personal care, housing-related tasks, household chores, food shopping, cooking and managing money. We also make it possible to get out and use local facilities such as leisure centres and libraries, and to pursue education or work. We can plan and support holidays, trips to the theatre, football matches and anything else that matters to someone.
Individually tailored support
Everything we do is guided by the people who use our services. Support is flexible and person-centred, and we are clear from the very beginning about what we will do and what our responsibilities are — including practical help setting up a home and gaining a tenancy. Our trained team works together to provide consistency and continuity, so people can develop and reach their potential.
Paying for support
Some people prefer to use a personal budget or direct payment to pay for support from Afeni Healthcare staff. We are happy to work with individuals and their advocates to set that up so it meets the person’s needs. Support may also be funded by a local authority following a Care Act assessment, through NHS Continuing Healthcare, or privately.

Supported Living Services — common questions
What is supported living?
Supported living means the person has their own home and their own tenancy, and receives support there. It is different from residential care: the housing and the support are separate, so someone keeps control of where they live even if their support provider changes.
How is supported living different from residential care?
In residential care, accommodation and care come together as one package in a care home. In supported living, the person holds their own tenancy and buys support separately, which usually means more choice over their day, their home and who supports them.
How many hours of support can someone have?
Anything from a few hours a week to 24-hour support, including waking nights and sleep-ins. Hours are set by the person’s assessed needs and are reviewed and adjusted as those needs change.
Can someone move to supported living from a residential placement?
Yes, and it is something we support regularly. Moving is a significant change, so we plan transitions gradually — introducing staff early, keeping familiar routines where possible, and moving at a pace that works for the person.
Who is responsible for the tenancy?
The person holds the tenancy with their landlord, and we provide the support. We can help with the practical side of managing a tenancy — paperwork, bills, budgeting and liaising with the landlord — as part of the support plan.
